If I am in a car
accident, what do I do?
911 is available 24
hours a day, and was put
in place to provide
immediate assistance.
Dispatchers have ability
to dispatch Police,
Fire, and the Emergency
Medical Services. Our
dispatchers are trained
extensively with
emergency response, and
can help you. It is
important that you try
to remain calm, and
answer questions that
might be asked.
If possible, try not to
move your vehicle until
the Police Department
arrives. Not only may
your vehicle be unsafe
to drive, but also a
proper investigation can
be conducted if the
vehicles have not been
moved.
I was in a car accident,
how do I get the report?
Accident reports are
generated by the
investigating officer,
and forwarded to the
records department.
This report can be
obtained by calling
203-222-2600 and asking
for the records
department. It is
recommended that you
call prior to coming
down to pick up the
report, to ensure the
report has been filed
and processed.
If I dial 911 by
accident what should I
do?
Do not hang up. It is
understandable for
people to make mistakes,
but the dispatchers will
send the police to your
residence if they are
unable to determine the
cause of the call.
If a storm knocks out
the electricity, whom
should I call?
Please contact
Connecticut Light and
Power at
1-800-286-2000. It
should also be noted
that during storms, the
call volume is extremely
heavy so expect a
lengthy wait. Although
this can be frustrating
for people, it assists
CL&P in determining the
exact location of the
outage, and expidites
their actions.
What to do when
stopped by the police:
Take the following steps
to make a traffic stop
less stressful for both
you and the police
officer.
§
Pull the vehicle off the
road.
§
Remain calm. Do not be
argumentative.
§
Remain in the vehicle
unless ordered out.
§
Turn off your engine,
headlights, radio and
cellular phone.
§
Turn on your flasher
lights.
§
Keep both hands on the
steering wheel (10 and 2
position).
§
Roll down the driver's
side window.
§
Comply with the
officer's requests.
§
Tell the officer what
you want to do before
doing anything.
§
Tell the officer where
your license and
registration are before
retrieving them.
If I need fingerprints,
can the Weston Police
Department help me?
If you are a town
resident, or town
employee you may come to
the police department
during business hours
for this service. It
should be noted that an
officer is not always
available for
fingerprints, but we
will do our best to
accommodate requests.
I have a question about
a citation?
There are several types
of citations that can be
issued and include town
tickets, written
warnings, state
infractions, and state
summons. It is best to
contact the agency that
issued the citation.
Where is Lost and Found?
Any item can be turned
into the police dispatch
office 24 hours a day.
The dispatch office is
located adjacent to the
fire department. If you
have lost an item, and
wish to see if it has
been turned in, you can
call 203-222-2600.
